Broadway audiences will walk the streets of Dublin as romantic new musical Once, starring Steve Kazee and Cristin Milioti, begins performances on Broadway on February 28. The show, based on the independent film of the same name, is set to open at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on March 18, after a successful off-Broadway run at New York Theatre Workshop. John Tiffany directs.
Featuring a score by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who won an Academy Award for the Once song “Falling Slowly,” the show is set on the streets of Dublin. Over the course of one fateful week, an unexpected friendship and artistic collaboration between a street musician (Guy) and a Czech immigrant (Girl) quickly evolves into a powerful but complicated love story.
The musical adaptation features a book by Irish playwright Enda Walsh, movement by Steven Hoggett, set and costume design by five-time Tony winner Bob Crowley, music direction by Martin Lowe, lighting design by Natasha Katz and sound design by Clive Goodwin.
